Colorful Crochet Shawl

Materials:

Yarn: 100% cotton, medium worsted weight (4). You will need approximately 200-300 yards in various colors (red, yellow, green, blue, pink).
Hook: 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook.
Scissors.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge:

4” x 4” = 15 double crochets x 8 rows. Gauge is not crucial but may affect the size of your finished shawl.

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space

Instructions:

Row 1: Start with a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), then make 2 more dc into the ring (3 dc total). Ch 2, then make 3 dc into the ring. Repeat this until the ring is filled. Pull tight and join with a sl st to top of the ch 3. (You should have 3 clusters of 3 dc each separated by ch 2.)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. In the sp between the first 2 clusters, work 3 dc, ch 2, and 3 dc (creating a corner). In the next sp, work 3 dc and repeat the corner in the last sp. Join with a sl st to top of ch 3.

Row 3: Repeat Row 2. Continue this pattern, adding rows to increase the size of your shawl until you reach your desired length (about 60 inches wide for a full shawl).

Changing Colors: To change colors, finish the last dc of the last stitch of the previous color, drop that color, and pull up the new color. Continue as per the instructions.

Finishing: Once the shawl reaches desired size, fasten off and weave in all ends with a tapestry needle. Optional: You can add fringes at the ends for extra flair. To do this, cut several 10-inch pieces of yarn, fold them in half, and attach them to the corners using a slip knot.

Blocking: Gently wet the shawl and lay it flat to dry, shaping it as desired. This will help the stitches open up beautifully.
