This minimalist crochet plant hanger is perfect for displaying small to medium-sized pots in a modern, space-saving way. Designed using simple stitches and sturdy cotton yarn, it’s ideal for beginners and a stylish addition to any room or balcony.
Materials
– 3 mm (US D) crochet hook
– 100% cotton rope or thick cotton yarn (approx. 20–30 meters)
– Metal ring (2” diameter)
– Scissors
– Tape measure
Instructions
-
Foundation:
-
Cut 4 strands of yarn, each 2 meters long.
-
Fold all in half and pull through the metal ring to create a lark’s head knot (you now have 8 hanging strands).
-
-
Main Structure:
-
With each pair of strands, tie square knots or half knots at about 10 cm down from the ring.
-
Repeat this for all 4 strand pairs to form the upper basket area.
-
-
Interlocking Section:
-
About 10 cm below the first knots, take one strand from each neighboring pair and tie new knots, creating an interlocking diamond shape.
-
Repeat for all sides.
-
-
Bottom Closure:
-
Gather all strands together at the bottom.
-
Tie a tight overhand knot about 10–12 cm below the last row of knots to secure the plant pot base.
-
Trim ends evenly or leave fringed.
-
How To
– Use thicker cotton rope for heavier pots and outdoor use.
– Adjust the length of strands depending on how low you want it to hang.
– Add wooden beads between knots for a decorative touch.
– Test with an empty pot first to make sure it hangs level.
– Suitable for pots up to 6–8 inches in diameter.
