Materials
– Bulky weight yarn (approx. 200 g)
– US 10.5 (6.5 mm) knitting needles
– Tapestry needle
– 2 wooden or plastic buttons (1–1.5” diameter)
– Measuring tape
– Optional: thin felt for lining, sewing needle & thread
Instructions
-
Measure Device:
-
Measure your laptop's width and height. Add 1” to both for ease and seams.
-
-
Cast On:
-
Calculate stitch count based on gauge (e.g., 14 sts = 4”) to match the width of your laptop.
-
Cast on enough stitches to reach that width.
-
-
Main Body (Garter Stitch):
-
Knit every row until your piece reaches double the height of the laptop plus 3” extra for the flap.
-
-
Bind Off and Fold:
-
Bind off all stitches loosely.
-
Fold the piece so the bottom half becomes the sleeve body. The top 3” will fold over as the flap.
-
-
Seaming:
-
Sew the side seams with mattress stitch.
-
Attach buttons to the body and cut small slits into flap for buttonholes or sew loops with yarn.
-
-
Optional Lining:
-
Cut felt to match inner dimensions and hand-stitch inside for added protection.
-
How To
– Choose tightly spun yarn for better structure and durability.
– You can felt the piece slightly for extra stiffness (if using wool).
– Adjust the size to fit tablets or larger laptops.
– Add a small inner pocket for cables or a mouse.
– Spot clean with a damp cloth or hand wash only.
