Instructions

This sweater is worked flat from back to chest, then folded and seamed under the belly and around leg openings.

  1. Measurements First:

    • Neck circumference: ~28 cm

    • Chest (widest part): ~42 cm

    • Back length: ~30 cm

    • Adjust stitch count based on your dog’s measurements.

  2. Cast On:

    • Cast on 52 stitches using a stretchy method.

  3. Neck Ribbing:

    • Work K2, P2 ribbing for 10 rows.

    • This forms a snug turtleneck-style collar.

  4. Body:

    • Switch to stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row).

    • Work even for 20 cm (about 40 rows), ending on a WS row.

  5. Leg Openings (worked in sections):

    • Knit 10 stitches, bind off 10, knit 12 (center), bind off 10, knit 10.

    • Work each side separately for 4 rows to shape leg openings.

    • Then rejoin all stitches and continue in stockinette for another 6 cm.

  6. Bottom Ribbing:

    • Switch to K2, P2 ribbing for 6 rows.

    • Bind off loosely.

  7. Finishing:

    • Fold lengthwise and seam under belly and along chest.

    • Leave leg holes open. Weave in ends securely.

How To

  1. Gauge Matters:
Always knit a small swatch first — proper measurements = proper fit.

  2. Stretch for Comfort:
Ribbing around the neck and belly allows stretch without choking or squeezing.

  3. Try On Before Seaming:
You can hold the flat piece against your dog to check length and hole placement.

  4. Adjust Size:
Add/subtract stitches in multiples of 4 to change width.

  5. Use Washable Yarn:
Dogs get messy. Choose soft, durable, and machine-washable fibers.
