Colorful Heart Appliqué

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn in three colors: turquoise (A), white (B), and yellow (C) - approx. 20 yards of each
Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

Gauge:

Gauge is not crucial for this project, but 4 stitches and 4 rows of single crochet should measure approximately 1 inch. To check your gauge, crochet a 4-inch square in single crochet and measure. Adjust your hook size if necessary.

CH = chain
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
SLST = slip stitch
ST = stitch

Instructions:

Round 1 (Color A - Turquoise):
Make a magic ring (or ch 4 and join). Within the ring, work 10 SC. Pull the tail of the magic ring to tighten. Join with a SLST to the first SC (10 ST).

Round 2:
CH 2 (counts as first DC), work 1 DC in the same ST. Work 2 DC in each of the next 10 STs. Join with a SLST to the top of the first DC (20 ST).

Round 3 (Color B - White):
Change to white yarn. CH 1 (does not count as ST), SC in the same ST. Work 1 SC in each of the next 20 STs. Join with a SLST to the first SC (21 ST).

Round 4 (Color C - Yellow):
Change to yellow yarn. CH 2, DC in the same ST. Work 2 DC in each ST around. Join with a SLST to the top of the beginning DC (42 ST).

Round 5:
CH 6. Skip 1 ST, SLST in the next ST. Repeat around until you reach the starting point. Join with a SLST to finish.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends with a yarn needle. If desired, lightly block the heart by shaping it and allowing it to dry flat to enhance its shape.
