Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in yellow (approx. 25g)
- Worsted weight yarn in white (approx. 25g)
- Worsted weight yarn in green (approx. 25g)
- 3.5 mm crochet hook (E size)
- Fiberfill stuffing (small amount)
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
Gauge is not critical for this project, but aim for about 5 stitches per inch in single crochet. To measure gauge, make a small swatch of 10 stitches wide and count how many stitches fit in 2 inches.
Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- inc - increase (2 sc in same stitch)
- st - stitch
Instructions:
Flower:
- With yellow yarn, create a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc into the magic ring. Pull tight to close the ring. (6 stitches)
- Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 stitches)
- Round 3: *1 sc in next st, inc in next st; repeat from * around. (18 stitches)
- Round 4: *2 sc in next st, inc in next st; repeat from * around. (24 stitches)
- Switch to white yarn. Round 5: *1 dc in the next 2 st, inc in next st; repeat from * around. (30 stitches)
- Round 6: *1 dc in the next 3 st, inc in next st; repeat from * around. (36 stitches)
- Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Stuff the center lightly with fiberfill.
- Using the tail, gather around the edge of the flower and pull to close. Secure and weave in ends.
Petals:
- With white yarn, attach yarn to the back of the flower at any stitch.
- Ch 1, work 5 dc in the same st (this creates one petal). Sl st to the next st. Repeat for each petal until you have a total of 8 petals.
- Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Stem:
- With green yarn, ch 50 (or desired length for your bookmark).
- Sl st in each ch back to the base of the flower.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends securely to ensure durability. Consider blocking the flower by gently steaming it with an iron on a low setting, protecting it with a cloth to prevent direct heat.
Optional Variations:
You can create a cluster of flowers in different colors or make larger flowers by increasing the rounds for a bolder bookmark. You can also experiment with different yarn weights for a varied texture.
