Floral Crochet Wall Hanging
Materials:
- Yarn:
- Lightweight cotton yarn in various colors (beige, pink, yellow, purple, blue, green) - approximately 50g of each color.
- Hook:
- 2.5mm crochet hook.
- Base:
- 12-inch embroidery hoop or similar round frame.
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends.
- Hot glue gun (optional, for securing flowers).
Gauge: Gauge is not crucial for this project. However, aim for a tight stitch to maintain structure. To measure gauge, crochet a swatch of 10 stitches and 10 rows in single crochet. It should measure approximately 2 inches square.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st(s) = stitch(es)
Instructions:
Creating the Flowers:
- Choose your yarn color. Start by making a magic circle. Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet).
- In the magic circle, make 11 additional double crochets (12 dc in total). Pull the magic circle tight to close. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3. (You will create a flower shape.)
- Chain 2, *make 1 double crochet, chain 1, 1 double crochet in the same stitch*; repeat from * to * around for 6 petals. Close off and weave in the ends. Repeat for different colors to make about 15-20 flowers of varying sizes and colors.
Creating the Leaves:
- With green yarn, chain 10. In the 3rd chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet. In the next chain, make 1 single crochet, chain 1, and turn.
- In the next chain, make 1 single crochet in the first chain, chain back up to the top chain of the original chain and finish off.
- Make 10-12 leaves in total.
Assembling the Wall Hanging:
- Open the embroidery hoop and tighten it around the frame to create a taut surface for attaching flowers.
- Start gluing the flowers and leaves onto the frame, arranging them as desired to create a vibrant mixed bouquet. Allow the glue to dry completely.
- Once dry, you can add additional flowers or leaves to fill in any gaps. Make sure everything is securely attached.
Finishing Touches:
Weave in any loose ends using a tapestry needle. To block, dampen the flowers slightly and shape them before letting them dry completely. This will help maintain the shape and give a polished finish. Hang your beautiful floral wall hanging using the attached hanger or choose a decorative ribbon for a touch of elegance.
Optional Variations:
Experiment with different flower patterns such as daisies or roses, or add a personalized message at the base of the wall hanging. Use variegated yarn for an interesting color blend.
