Abbreviations:
- k: knit
- p: purl
- st(s): stitch(es)
- k2tog: knit two stitches together (decrease)
- CO: cast on
- BO: bind off
Instructions:
- Body of the Pumpkin:
- CO 24 stitches using the orange yarn.
- Row 1: (k1, p1) to end of row.
- Row 2: (p1, k1) to end of row.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 5 inches from cast on edge (approximately 20 rows).
- Shaping the Pumpkin:
- Fold the knitted piece in half lengthwise, aligning edges.
- Using a yarn needle, whip stitch the short edges together, forming a tube.
- Turn the tube inside out so the seam is on the inside.
- Gather one end of the tube by threading a length of yarn through the stitches on that edge and pull tight to close. Secure tightly.
- Turn the pumpkin right side out.
- Stuffing:
- If desired, stuff the pumpkin lightly with fiberfill for added volume.
- Finishing the Pumpkin:
- Gather the other end of the tube in the same way, closing the top securely.
- Cut a 12-inch piece of brown yarn and form a stem by threading through the top, leaving a small portion to create a stem.
- Wrap the brown yarn around the tip of the pumpkin several times to form a stem. Tie off and secure.
- To create ribbing, use the remaining yarn string and thread it through the body of the pumpkin, cinching at intervals. Repeat around the pumpkin to create the look of ribs.
- Finishing Touches:
- Weave in all ends securely using a yarn needle.
- Block your completed pumpkin to shape if necessary.
Enjoy your colorful knitted mini pumpkins as cheerful decorations for fall! You can make them in various sizes and colors for a delightful seasonal display.
Optional Variations:
- Try using green yarn for a fun twist on the traditional pumpkin color.
- Add a sprinkle of glitter to the yarn for a festive touch.
