Charming Amigurumi Dogs
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in various colors (approximately 50g per dog)
- 3.5mm (E) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
- Safety eyes (6mm or 8mm, depending on preference)
- Yarn needle for weaving ends
- Scissors
Gauge:
Gauge is not critical for this project. However, using a tighter tension will help prevent stuffing from showing through. 6 sc = 2 inches using worsted weight yarn.
Abbreviations:
- sc = single crochet
- inc = increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
- dec = decrease (2 sc together)
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
Instructions:
Body:
- Start with a magic ring (or ch 2, and make 6 sc in the second ch from hook). Total: 6 sc.
- Round 1: (inc) six times. Total: 12 sc.
- Round 2: (sc, inc) six times. Total: 18 sc.
- Round 3: (2 sc, inc) six times. Total: 24 sc.
- Rounds 4-8: sc in each stitch around. Total: 24 sc.
- Round 9: (2 sc, dec) six times. Total: 18 sc.
- Round 10: (sc, dec) six times. Total: 12 sc.
- Stuff the body firmly with fiberfill.
- Round 11: (dec) six times. Total: 6 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Use the yarn needle to close the hole, and sew in ends.
Head:
- Repeat steps 1-4 for the head but stop after Round 8. Total: 24 sc.
- Round 9: (2 sc, dec) six times. Total: 18 sc.
- Round 10: (sc, dec) six times. Total: 12 sc.
- Stuff the head, and repeat step 11 to close it off. Attach safety eyes before closing the head if using.
Ears:
- Ch 6, turn and sc in the second ch from hook, and across. Total: 5 sc.
- Ch 1, turn, inc, (sc, inc) twice, sc. Total: 8 sc.
- Ch 1, turn, sc across. Total: 8 sc.
- Fasten off, leaving a tail. Make two ears.
- Sew ears to the top of the head.
Snout:
- Ch 4, and sc in the second ch from hook. Total: 3 sc.
- Ch 1, turn, inc in first 2 stitches, sc in last. Total: 5 sc.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew to the front of the head.
Tail:
- Ch 6, turn, sc in the second ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch. Total: 5 sc.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Attach to the back of the body.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends using the yarn needle. Optionally, you can embroider small features like a tongue or nose and personalize your dogs with colored yarn or other embellishments.
