Lovely Crochet Flower Motif
Materials:
- Yarn: 100% cotton yarn, lightweight (category 3), approximately 50 yards in white.
- Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5.0 mm).
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but to ensure the flower measures approximately 3 inches in diameter, the tension should be loose enough to easily see your stitches. If using a different yarn, check that your stitches feel comfortable and can be easily manipulated.
Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- sl st - slip stitch
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- tr - triple crochet
Instructions:
Round 1: Start by making a magic ring. To do this, wrap the yarn around your fingers to form a loop, then insert your hook into the loop and pull up a loop. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then make 11 dc into the ring. Pull on the yarn tail to tighten the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3. (Total: 12 dc)
Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc). In the same stitch, make 1 hdc. *In the next stitch, make 2 hdc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 2. (Total: 24 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 1 (counts as first sc). In the same stitch, make 2 sc. *In the next stitch, make 2 sc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 1. (Total: 48 sc)
Petals: To create the petals of the flower, *sl st into the first sc*. Ch 3, then make 2 dc into the same stitch. Ch 2, then sl st back into the same stitch. This forms one petal. Repeat from * in every sc around to form a total of 6 petals. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3.
Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving. Pull the tail through the last loop to secure it. Use a tapestry needle to weave in all ends carefully, ensuring they are tucked away for a neat finish. You can lightly steam the flower to shape it if desired.
Optional Variations: You can change the yarn color to create flowers in different shades, or make smaller flowers by using a smaller hook. Add a button in the center for an extra touch!
