Sunflower Hot Pad

Sunflower Hot Pad
Materials:
- Yarn: 100% cotton yarn (worsted weight) in white (200g), yellow (50g), dark brown (30g), and light brown (30g).
- Hook: G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends.
Gauge:
To ensure your hot pad is the correct size, your gauge should be 4 inches = 10 stitches and 10 rows in double crochet. Make a small swatch and measure to check your gauge.

Instructions:
Base:
1. With white yarn, ch 4. Join with a sl st to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout), 11 dc into the ring. Join with a sl st to top of the beginning ch-3. (12 dc)
3. Round 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join with a sl st. (24 dc)
4. Round 3: Ch 3, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (36 dc)
5. Round 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from around. Join with a sl st. (48 dc)
6. Round 5: Ch 3, dc in next 3 st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from around. Join with a sl st. (60 dc)
7. Round 6: Ch 3, dc in next 4 st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from around. Join with a sl st. (72 dc)
8. Round 7: Ch 3, dc in next 5 st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from around. Join with a sl st. (84 dc)
9. Round 8: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 4 st, *ch 2, skip 2 st, sc in next 5 st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st.
Sunflower Petals:
Change to yellow yarn.
10. Round 1: Ch 1, *sc in first st, ch 6, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, sl st in the next st; repeat from * around. (12 petals)
11. Finish off and weave in ends.
Center of Sunflower:
Change to dark brown yarn and make a small circle using the same method as for base rounds:
12. Ch 4, join to form a ring.
13. Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join (12 sc).
14. Next round: *Sc, ch 1 in 1st st, sc in next st; repeat from * around, join (24 st).
15. Attach center to the yellow petals using a tapestry needle to sew them together.
Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle. To block your hot pad, lightly mist with water and lay flat to shape.
