Sunny Yellow Textured Knit Blanket
Materials:
- Chunky yarn (weight: bulky, approximately 400 yards)
- US size 11 (8.0 mm) knitting needles
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
To ensure your blanket turns out the right size, check your gauge. Using the chosen yarn and needles, knit a swatch of 4 inches by 4 inches in the specified stitch. If your swatch does not match, adjust your needle size accordingly. Aim for about 8 stitches and 12 rows in this gauge.
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- k: Knit
- p: Purl
- st(s): Stitch(es)
- BO: Bind Off
Instructions:
Step 1: To begin, CO 40 stitches. This will give you a width of approximately 30 inches, making it a great size for a lap blanket.
Step 2: Rows 1-4: Knit every stitch across the row (this creates a lovely, smooth base).
Step 3: Row 5: *Knit 2 stitches, then purl 2 stitches; repeat from * to end of the row. You are now creating the textured pattern.
Step 4: Row 6: Repeat Row 2 (knit every stitch across).
Step 5: Rows 7-10: Continue alternating between Rows 3 and 4 (textured row, followed by knit row).
Step 6: Continue knitting until the blanket reaches your desired length, around 50 inches is a good target for a cozy throw.
Step 7: Once you've reached the desired length, knit one final row in stockinette stitch (all knit) to finish the edge smoothly.
Step 8: Now it’s time to BO. To do this, knit the first stitch, then knit the second stitch. Pull the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Repeat until all stitches are bound off.
Step 9: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail of about 6 inches, and pull it through the last loop to secure it.
Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle. This will ensure your blanket looks clean and professional. If required, gently block the blanket to shape it. Simply lay it flat and gently stretch it if needed.
Optional Variations:
Feel free to change the color to match any décor or season. You could also make a larger blanket by casting on more stitches and adding extra rows.
