Adorable Crochet Owl
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight (size 4) in light beige and dark brown (approx. 50g each)
- Hook: 4.0 mm (G-6)
- Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill
- Safety eyes: 9mm (2 pieces)
- Other: Scissors, yarn needle, stitch marker
Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but it’s best to have tight stitches to avoid stuffing peeking through. Use the following method to measure your gauge:
- Make a small swatch of 12 double crochets (DC) in a row. It should measure approximately 4 inches wide. Adjust your hook size if needed.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- MR = magic ring
- inc = increase (2 stitches in 1 stitch)
- dec = decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
Instructions:
Body:
- Make a magic ring (MR).
- Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6 stitches).
- Round 2: inc in each sc (12 stitches).
- Round 3: (sc in next stitch, inc) repeat around (18 stitches).
- Round 4: (sc in next 2 stitches, inc) repeat around (24 stitches).
- Rounds 5-8: sc in each stitch around (24 stitches).
- Round 9: (sc in next 2 stitches, dec) repeat around (18 stitches).
- Round 10: (sc in next stitch, dec) repeat around (12 stitches).
- Stuff the body firmly with the polyester fiberfill.
- Round 11: dec around (6 stitches). Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Eyes:
- Using dark brown yarn, make 2 small round shapes (approx. 4 sc in MR). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Attach the safety eyes inside the circles and then sew the circles onto the body above Round 9.
Ears:
- With light beige yarn, ch 5.
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in last ch (turning your work now, working on the opposite side), sc in next 2 ch (7 stitches).
- Row 2: ch 1, sc across (7 stitches). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Make 2 ears and sew onto the top of the head, about 2 stitches apart.
Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends with your yarn needle. Optionally, you can lightly block the owl to help shape it and make the seams neater. Consider using different colors of yarn for a unique look. You could also create a small loop at the top for hanging it up as an ornament!
