Amigurumi Cat Couple

Materials:

Yarn: Worsted weight (size 4) yarn in gray, red, yellow, and pink (approximately 50g of each color)
Crochet Hook: Size G (4.0mm)
Safety Eyes: 6mm black safety eyes (2)
Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill
Stitch Marker
Yarn Needle

Gauge: 5 single crochet stitches x 6 rows = 1 inch.

To measure gauge, crochet a 4” square in single crochet and count stitches in the central 4 inches both horizontally and vertically.

Abbreviations:

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
inc - increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
dec - decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
sl st - slip stitch
st - stitch

Instructions:

Cat Body:

With gray yarn, start with a magic ring.
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Round 2: *inc* in each st around. (12)
Round 3: *sc in next st, inc* repeat around. (18)
Round 4-5: sc in each st around. (18)
Round 6: *sc in next 2 st, inc* repeat around. (24)
Round 7-10: sc in each st around. (24)
Round 11: *sc in next 2 st, dec* repeat around. (18)
Round 12: *sc in next st, dec* repeat around. (12)
Stuff the body and continue to dec until closed. Fasten off and weave ends.

Cat Head:

With gray yarn, repeat the body steps to create a smaller ball (6, 12, 18, 24, 24, 18). Sweep in stitches for the head and stuff lightly, attaching the safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9.
For the nose, use pink yarn: Ch 2, 4 sc in the second ch from hook. Fasten off.
Sew the nose in place and use black yarn to stitch a smile and little whiskers.
Use white yarn to create a few strands for the cat fur on the top of the head.

Cat Arms and Legs:

For each limb, with gray yarn, ch 2, then 6 sc in the second ch from hook. Work in rounds until you reach 6-8”. Stuff lightly and sew onto the body.

Cat Shorts:

With red or yellow yarn, ch 20.
Row 1: sc in each ch across. Turn. (19)
Row 2-4: sc in each st across. Turn.
Fold in half and stitch down the sides to create a shorts shape.
Attach the shorts to the body. You can use a button sewn on for decoration if desired.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends using a yarn needle. Lightly sc around the edge of the shorts for a clean finish. You can block the pieces for better shape if desired.
