Chevron Crochet Blanket
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 4 colors (red, blue, green, white) - approximately 600 yards total (150 yards of each color).
- Crochet Hook: Size H (5.0 mm).
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
16 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in double crochet (dc). To measure gauge, crochet a swatch of 20 stitches and 12 rows and measure the center 4 inches.
Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- sp - space
Instructions:
1. Start with the foundation: Make a slip knot and chain 165 (this will give you a blanket approximately 48 inches wide; adjust as necessary for desired width).
2. Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, work 1 dc. Work 1 dc in each of the next 2 chains, then *work 2 dc in the next chain, 1 dc in the next 2 chains*; repeat from * to the end of the row. You should end on 2 dc in the last chain. Total: 166 stitches.
3. Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc), then in the first dc stitch, work 1 dc. *In the next sp, work 2 dc, 1 dc in the next 2 dc*; repeat from * to the end of the row. You should end on 2 dc in the top of turning chain. Total: 168 stitches.
4. Row 3: Change to the next color (for example, switch to red). Turn and repeat row 2, increasing in the same way until you have worked 6 rows, alternating colors every two rows (red, blue, green, white, etc.).
5. Continue this pattern: Repeat until the blanket reaches your desired length, approximately 60-70 inches for a full throw blanket.
6. Last row: For the final row, use your last color and work 1 dc in each stitch across, fasten off, and cut the yarn.
Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends with the tapestry needle. For a polished look, gently block the blanket by laying it flat, shaping it to your desired dimensions, and pinning it down until it dries.
Optional Variations:
- Experiment with different yarn textures for a unique feel.
- Add a border by working single crochet (sc) around the entire blanket in the same final color.
