Chunky Crochet Tote Bag

Materials:

Yarn: 2 skeins of super bulky yarn (approx. 100 yards each) in a soft, pale yellow color.
Crochet Hook: Size Q (15 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge:

10 stitches = 4 inches in single crochet. To check gauge, make a sample swatch of 10 stitches and 10 rows in single crochet. Adjust your hook size if necessary to match the gauge.

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch

Instructions:

Start with the Base: Chain 25. Sc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across (24 sc).
In the next row, ch 1, turn. Sc in each stitch (24 sc). Repeat this row until the base reaches 12 inches in length, approximately 15 rows.
Build the Sides: Once the base is complete, create the sides by going around the edges. Ch 1, and work 1 sc in each of the 24 stitches around the perimeter, placing 3 sc in each of the 4 corners (total of 32 sc).
Continue working in rounds, placing 1 sc in each stitch. Keep going until the sides reach a height of 12 inches, or until you like the height.
Create the Handles: After the desired height, make the first handle by chaining 40, then sl st to join back to the bag. Skip 5 sc and attach to the next sc with another sl st. Chain 40 again for the second handle.
Finish off and weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.

Finishing:
