Instructions:
This blanket is made up of granny squares, each individually crocheted, then joined together.
Creating the Granny Square:
- Start with a slip knot and chain 5.
- Join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
- Round 1: Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet), then work 2 dc into the ring, *chain 2, then work 3 dc into the ring; repeat from * two more times. Chain 2 and join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (You should have 4 clusters of 3 dc, each separated by a chain 2 space).
- Round 2: Slip stitch into the next 2 dc to reach the chain 2 space. Chain 3, work 2 dc into the same space, chain 2, then work 3 dc in the same space. *In the next chain 2 space, work 3 dc, chain 2, and 3 dc; repeat from * two more times. Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (Now you should have 8 clusters with chain spaces in between).
- Round 3: Slip stitch into next 2 dc, and then into the next chain 2 space. Chain 3, and work 2 dc in the same space, chain 2, and 3 dc in the same space. Repeat this in each chain 2 space around. Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (You should have 12 clusters).
- Continue this process, adding additional rounds as necessary, until your granny square measures approximately 12 inches square — typically around 4 rounds total.
- To finish off the square, fasten off and weave in the ends with your yarn needle.
Joining the Granny Squares:
- Once you have made enough squares (about 36 for a full-size throw), lay them out in a pleasing arrangement.
- Using a slip stitch, join squares together as follows: Place two squares right sides together, insert the hook through both squares, yarn over, pull through, yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook. Repeat this along the edges of the squares to secure them together.
Finishing:
- Once all squares are joined, add a border if desired. To create a simple border, work 1 round of single crochet evenly around the entire blanket.
- Weave in all ends using your yarn needle for a clean finish.
- To block your blanket, gently wash it and lay it flat on a surface to dry, shaping it into the desired dimensions.
Enjoy snuggling up with your beautiful new throw blanket!
