Textured Crochet Blankets
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight (4) in four colors: light green, lavender, light purple, and soft pink. You will need approximately 200 yards of each color.
- Hook: Size I/9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
To ensure your blanket has the correct dimensions, check your gauge. 4-inch square should equal 12 double crochets and 7 rows of double crochet. Adjust hook size if necessary.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- dc: double crochet
- st(s): stitch(es)
Blanket Instructions:
These blankets are worked in one piece using a simple stitch pattern. Each blanket is approximately 36 inches by 30 inches, perfect for snuggling.
Blanket Body:
- With light green yarn, make a slip knot and ch 92 (this is the foundation chain).
- Row 1: Starting in the 4th ch from the hook, dc in each ch across (90 dc). Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next dc. *Skip one dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc.* Repeat from * to * until 2 dc remain, skip 1, dc in last dc. Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc. *Ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc.* Repeat from * to *, skipping last ch-1 space, dc in last dc. Turn. Repeat Rows 2-3 until the blanket measures approximately 30 inches in height.
- Switch to lavender yarn. Repeat Rows 2-3 for an additional 6 inches.
- Switch to light purple yarn. Repeat Rows 2-3 for another 6 inches.
- Switch to soft pink yarn. Repeat Rows 2-3 until the blanket measures approximately 36 inches in height, or until desired length is achieved.
Finishing:
Once the blankets are the desired size, fasten off and weave in all loose ends. Consider adding a simple single crochet border around the entire blanket for extra polish:
- Attach the same color yarn used for the last section (soft pink) with a slip knot in any corner.
- Work 1 sc in each st around the blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner.
- Join with a slip stitch to the first sc and fasten off.
Blocking:
Wet block your blanket by soaking it in lukewarm water for about 15 minutes, then gently squeeze out excess water. Lay it flat on a towel, reshaping it to the desired dimensions, and allow it to dry completely.
Optional Variations:
Feel free to change colors as desired or add embellishments like pom-poms on the corners for a fun touch!
