Colorful Crochet Scarf
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in the following colors: Yellow (200 yards), White (200 yards), Orange (200 yards), and Red (100 yards).
- Crochet Hook: Size H / 5.00 mm.
- Scissors.
- Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
12 double crochets (dc) and 8 rows = 4 inches square. To measure gauge, make a small swatch of dc in your chosen stitch. If it’s larger than the gauge listed, use a smaller hook. If smaller, use a larger hook.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- sp = space
Instructions:
Foundation Chain:
With Yellow, make a foundation chain of 20 stitches.
Row 1:
1 dc into the 4th chain from the hook (the first 3 chains count as the first dc).
Dc in each chain across. (18 dc total)
Turn your work.
Row 2:
Ch 3 (this counts as your first dc), dc in each st across.
Change to White at the end of the row. (18 dc)
Row 3:
Ch 3, dc in each st across.
Change to Orange at the end of the row. (18 dc)
Row 4:
Ch 3, dc in each st across.
Change to Red at the end of the row. (18 dc)
Rows 5-20:
Repeat Rows 2-4 until you have a total of 20 rows. Your scarf should alternate between Yellow, White, Orange, and Red.
Final Row:
For the last row, change to Yellow again. Ch 3, dc in each st across to finish off. Fasten off.
Finishing:
Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends. For a polished look, block your scarf by wetting it and laying it flat to dry.
Optional Variations:
Add fringe to each end of the scarf by cutting yarn into 10-inch pieces, folding them in half, and using a slip knot to attach them to the end stitches.
