Colorful Granny Square Bag

Materials:

Yarn: Worsted weight (Medium 4), approximately 400 yards in various colors (choose at least 5 different colors)

Leather or faux leather handles (approx. 18 inches long)

Gauge: 4 inches = 4 granny squares (each square is approximately 4 inches). To measure, make a small square and count the number of squares in 4 inches.

ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
sc = single crochet
sp = space

Instructions:

Making the Granny Squares:

Start with your first color. Make a slip knot and chain 4. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc 2 times into the ring, ch 2, *dc 3 times into the ring, ch 2; repeat from * 2 more times. Join with a sl st to the top of the initial ch 3. (Total: 12 dc, 3 ch spaces)
Round 2: Change to your second color. Sl st into the next ch 2 space. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc 2 more times in the same sp, ch 2, *in the next ch 2 sp, dc 3 times, ch 2; repeat from * 2 more times. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3. (Total: 24 dc, 3 ch spaces)
Continue creating the remaining squares (total of 12 squares required), changing colors as desired for each round. Make sure the size of the squares remains consistent.

Joining the Squares:

Lay your squares out in a 3 x 4 grid.
To join, place two squares right sides together. Use your main or desired color to sl st through both squares. Continue sl st around the edges, joining squares together until all are connected. Repeat for each square.

Creating the Bag Body:

After joining, fold the bag in half. Sl st up the sides, leaving the top open. Continue this process until the bag reaches your desired depth (around 12-14 inches).

Attaching the Handles:

Position the leather handles on the inside of the bag's top edge. Secure with whip stitch or a strong yarn with large stitches to ensure stability.
