Gauge:

sl st = slip stitch
sp = space

Instructions:

Start with a Magic Circle: To begin your square, create a magic circle (or you can ch 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring).
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 2 dc into the magic circle. Ch 2, then work 3 dc into the circle. Ch 2. Repeat this step 2 more times, so you end up with four groups of 3 dc separated by ch 2. Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
Round 2: Sl st into the next 2 dc to reach the ch 2 sp. In the ch 2 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 2 dc, ch 2, and 3 dc in the same sp. In each of the next 3 ch 2 spaces, repeat this (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
Round 3: Slip stitch into the next 2 dc to reach the ch 2 sp. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 2 dc, ch 2, and 3 dc in the same sp. In each following ch 2 space, repeat this same pattern of working (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3.
Finish the Square: After completing three rounds, you should have a nice square shape. Fasten off the yarn, and leave a long tail for weaving in later.
