- Round 2: Change color if desired. sl st into the next ch 2 sp, then ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same ch 2 sp. Now in the next spaces, repeat (3 dc, ch 2). Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3.

Square 2 (Background Square):
- Use gray yarn and follow a similar pattern, but use single crochet instead of double crochet in every round.
- Make 16 gray squares to serve as the backdrop for your colorful squares.
Joining the Squares:
- Once all squares are complete, lay them out in a pleasing arrangement.
- Join squares with a slip stitch or using single crochet. Place two squares right sides together, insert your hook into the corner of both squares, and pull through the loops, then crochet or slip stitch across the edges to join.
Finishing:
- Once all squares are joined, weave in ends with a tapestry needle.
- Optional: Block your blanket by wetting it and laying it flat to dry, ensuring it's squared up nicely.
