- sp - space
- rnd - round
Instructions:
This bag is made up of granny squares sewn together. You'll create a total of 14 squares.
Granny Square Pattern:
1. Starting with the first color (green):
Make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as the first dc), then dc 2 more into the ring. Ch 1.
Make 3 dc into the ring. Ch 1. Repeat this 2 more times. You should have 4 groups of 3 dc with chain spaces between them. Sl st to the top of the ch 3 to close. (Your first square is complete!)
2. Continue to Round 2:
Ch 3, turn your work. In the first ch 1 sp, make 3 dc, ch 1, and again 3 dc in the same ch 1 sp. In the next ch 1 sp, do the same. Repeat until you reach the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3.
3. Continue this process, changing colors:
In each subsequent round, you'll add rounds of different colors, increasing each round by a group of 3 dc in each ch 1 sp. Continue until your squares measure about 5"x5".
4. Make 14 squares total in various colors.
Joining Squares:
1. Arrange your squares in a pleasing layout. You can follow a pattern or mix them randomly.
2. Using a tapestry needle and yarn, whip stitch squares together. This can be done in rows, joining the top row first, then adding the next row to the bottom of the previous one.
Create the Bag:
1. Once all squares are joined, fold the square fabric in half, lining up the edges, and sew the sides. Leave the top open.
2. Attach the kissed lock frame to the top of the bag. Follow the frame’s instructions for securing it, ensuring it’s tight and secure.
Finishing:
1. Weave in any loose ends using your tapestry needle to keep the inside of the bag neat and tidy.
2. Block your bag by lightly steaming it to set the stitches and give your bag a polished look.
Optional Variations:
You can add a lining inside the bag for an extra touch of elegance or to keep small items secure. Consider a matching or contrasting color for the lining.
This fun and colorful granny square handbag is perfect for days out, special occasions, or as a lovely gift for friends and family!
