Colorful Striped Scarf

Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards total, in colors: teal, rust, mustard, and grey)
- Needles: US size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Gauge:
To achieve the correct gauge, knit a swatch of 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row). Aim for 18 stitches and 24 rows in 4". Adjust needle size if necessary.
Abbreviations:
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- CO: Cast On
- BO: Bind Off
Instructions:
- CO 30 stitches using teal yarn.
- Row 1: K all stitches.
- Row 2: P all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your scarf measures 3 inches (7.5 cm) in height.
- Change to rust yarn:
- Row 1: K all stitches.
- Row 2: P all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the scarf measures 6 inches (15 cm) high.
- Change to mustard yarn:
- Row 1: K all stitches.
- Row 2: P all stitches.
- Continue for another 3 inches (7.5 cm).
- Change back to teal, repeating the initial steps until you have completed 5 color sections of your choosing with combinations of these colors.
- Continue alternating until the scarf is 60 inches (152 cm) long, ending with a purl row.
- BO all stitches. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches (15 cm).
Finishing:
Using the tapestry needle, weave in all loose ends securely on the wrong side of the scarf. If desired, block the scarf by wetting it and laying it flat to shape it, allowing it to dry completely.
Optional Variations:
- Experiment with more colors or adjust the width of the scarf by altering the cast-on stitches.
- Add fringe to each end by cutting yarn lengths about 10 inches (25 cm) long and tying them into knots along the edges.
