Cozy Granny Square Blanket

Cozy Granny Square Blanket
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in the following colors: Deep Teal (1 skein), Red (1 skein), Green (1 skein), Cream (2 skeins).
- Hook: Size H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook.
- Yarn needle for weaving ends.
- Scissors.
Gauge:
Check your gauge by making a 4" x 4" square in double crochet. You should have approximately 12 stitches and 7 rows. Adjust your hook size if necessary to achieve this gauge.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sp = space
- rnd = round
Instructions:
Note: This pattern is for one granny square measuring approximately 6" x 6". You will need to make a total of 20 squares for a lap blanket.
Granny Square Pattern:
- Start with the Cream yarn:
Make a slip knot and ch 4. Join with a sl st to form a ring. - Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), make 2 dc into the ring. Ch 2, then make 3 dc into the ring.
Repeat the (3 dc, ch 2) two more times. You should have 4 clusters of 3 dc. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. - Round 2: Change to Deep Teal yarn. Slip stitch into the ch 2 space. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same ch 2 space (corner made).
In the next ch 2 space, make 3 dc. Repeat for all corners. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. - Round 3: Change to Red yarn. Slip stitch into the ch 2 space. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same ch 2 space.
In each ch 2 space, make 3 dc. At each corner, make (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. - Round 4: Change to Green yarn. Slip stitch into the ch 2 space. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same ch 2 space.
In each ch 2 space, make 3 dc. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch 3. - Fasten off, weave in your ends.
Joining the Squares:
- Align your squares in a desired pattern.
- Using a yarn needle and a length of yarn, whip stitch or slip stitch the squares together.
Finishing:
Once all squares are joined, you might want to add a border.
- With Deep Teal, crochet 1 round of dc evenly around the entire blanket, working 3 dc in each corner.
- Fasten off and weave in any remaining ends.
Optional Variations:
Experiment with different color arrangements or add more rounds to your granny squares for a bigger blanket. This piece can also be made smaller as a throw or baby blanket!
