Crochet Basketweave Table Runner
Materials:
- Yarn: 100% Cotton Yarn, Worsted weight (4), approximately 200 yards in beige.
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H/8) crochet hook.
- Scissors: For cutting yarn ends.
- Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends.
Gauge:
To ensure your project turns out the right size, measure your gauge: 12 stitches = 4 inches in double crochet. To check, make a small swatch: chain 20, then double crochet for 10 rows. Measure across and count the stitches.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- dc: double crochet
- st(s): stitch(es)
- Rep: repeat
Instructions:
Foundation Row: Chain 32. This will be the width of your table runner.
Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 dc. Continue to dc across the row (30 dc). Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (this counts as your first dc). In the next st, make 1 dc. *Skip next st, dc in the next st. Rep from * across to the last st. In the last st, make 2 dc (to maintain the edge). Turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in the first st, then make dc in each st across (30 dc). Turn.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Continue repeating Rows 2-5 until the runner measures approximately 36 inches long, or your desired length. You should have around 20 total rows of the basketweave stitch.
Finishing:
After reaching your desired length, cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Use your tapestry needle to weave in the ends on the back of the work, ensuring they are secure. Optionally, block your item by gently washing and laying flat to dry to even out the stitches.
Optional Variations:
You can personalize your table runner by adding stripes of different colors or adjusting the width by chaining more or fewer stitches in the foundation row.
