- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving ends.

Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- sl st - slip stitch
- dc - double crochet
- sc - single crochet
Instructions:
Step 1: Create Granny Squares
We will create 9 Granny squares in total. Use your main color (the first color you choose) to create a square:
- Make a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc 2 into the ring, ch 2, *(dc 3, ch 2)* repeat from * twice. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
- Round 2: Sl st to the next ch 2 space, ch 3, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 3) in the same space, *(dc 3 in next ch 2 space)* repeat from * twice. Sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3.
- Round 3: Sl st to the next ch 2 space, ch 3, (dc 2, ch 2, dc 3) in the same space, *(dc 3 in next ch 2 space)* repeat to the end, sl st to the top of the ch 3.
Repeat to make 9 squares, changing colors every 3 squares: Red, Yellow, Green, Black, repeat until all squares are made.
Step 2: Assemble the Squares
Use a yarn needle to stitch squares together. Lay out 3 squares in one row, then stitch together. Repeat for second row and third row of squares. Then stitch rows together to form a large piece.
Step 3: Create Neckline and Armholes
With the larger piece facing you, you will create the neckline and armholes:
- Count down 3 squares from the top and leave 1 square for the neckline. For the armholes, count down a square on each side from the top edge.
- To create the armholes: Ch 2 and sc along the sides of the remaining squares to create a solid edge.
- For the neckline: ch 2 and sc across the 2 remaining squares on top.
Step 4: Add Edging
For a finishing touch, add a simple sc border around the entire crop top for a polished look:
- Start from one end, sc into each st around.
- Ensure to place 3 sc into corners to maintain the shape.
Step 5: Weave in Ends
Trim any loose ends and weave them in using a yarn needle. This will give your top a finished look.
Step 6: Optional Blocking
To maintain the shape, gently steam block the top by laying it flat and using a steam iron at a distance. This will open up the squares and give a more defined look.
Tips:
- This crop top can be customized in size by adding or removing squares. The model shown uses 3 squares across and 3 down.
- Experiment with color combinations to match your personal style.
Enjoy your new handmade crop top!
