Crochet Boxy Mesh Tee

Crochet Boxy Mesh Tee

This breezy boxy mesh tee is the ultimate summer staple. With a loose silhouette and airy texture, it pairs perfectly with high-waisted shorts or over swimwear. Made from two identical panels, it’s ideal for beginners and fashion-forward makers alike.

Materials

  • 250g DK weight cotton yarn

  • 4.0 mm crochet hook

  • Yarn needle

  • Scissors

  • Stitch markers (optional)

Measurements (fits S–M–L):

  • Each panel: approx. 50 cm wide × 45 cm tall

  • Adjust width or length by adding/removing foundation chains or rows

Instructions

Make 2 Panels (Front & Back):

  1. Ch 82 (or multiple of 2 + 2 for turning)

  2. Row 1: dc in 5th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next; repeat across

  3. Row 2: ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), turn; dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 across

  4. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures ~45 cm in height

  5. Fasten off and weave in ends

Assembly:

  1. Place panels on top of each other, RS facing out

  2. Seam top edges from each corner inward 15 cm (leave ~20 cm neckline open)

  3. Seam sides from bottom up, leaving 18–20 cm unseamed for armholes

  4. Weave in all ends and lightly block

Optional Finishing (Neckline & Hem):

  • Add a row of sc or hdc evenly around neckline and armholes for a neater finish

How To

  1. Fit Check: Lay both panels flat before seaming and try over a tank top to check proportions

  2. Yarn Tip: Cotton is perfect for hot weather — gives structure without overheating

  3. Mesh Tip: The stitch is open but stable — avoid pulling too tightly for best drape

  4. Styling: Tuck the front into jeans, layer over a camisole, or wear as a beach cover-up

  5. Beginner Tip: This is essentially two rectangles and simple mesh — ideal for learning shaping-free garment construction
