Crochet Color Block Dishcloth
Materials:
- Yarn: 100% cotton yarn in two colors – Green (approximately 100 yards) and Blue (approximately 50 yards).
- Crochet Hook: Size H-8 (5.0 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 12 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in single crochet. To measure your gauge, make a small swatch of about 10 stitches and 10 rows in single crochet. Measure the width and height of the swatch and adjust your hook size or yarn tension as needed to match the gauge.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- FO = finish off
Instructions:
Step 1: Start with the green yarn. Make a slip knot and chain 24 (or desired width).
Step 2: In the second chain from the hook, make a single crochet (sc). Continue making one sc in each chain across. You should have 23 sc at the end of the row.
Step 3: Chain 1 and turn your work. In this row, make one sc in each stitch across. Repeat this for a total of 14 rows with the green yarn.
Step 4: To switch colors to blue, cut the green yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Join the blue yarn in the same stitch where you finished with the green. Chain 1 and make one sc in each stitch across for 10 rows.
Step 5: After completing the blue section, cut the blue yarn, leaving another 6-inch tail, and switch back to green. Make 4 more rows of sc with green yarn.
Step 6: To finish, cut the green yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pull the last stitch through and pull tight to secure it (this is called finishing off).
Step 7: Weave in all the ends using the tapestry needle, making sure to secure them neatly so they don't come undone. You can wash and block the dishcloth to make it lie flat and have a more polished look.
Optional Variations:
- Try different color combinations for a unique look!
- Adjust the size by chaining more or fewer stitches at the beginning.
- Create a hanging loop by chaining an additional 10 stitches at the corner of your dishcloth before finishing off.
This simple and versatile pattern allows for endless creativity while being practical for everyday use. Enjoy your crocheting!
