Crochet Round Shoulder Bag
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn - 200 yards in a natural tan color
- Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
Gauge:
To ensure your bag is the correct size, crochet a swatch of 10 single crochets (sc) and 10 rows. Measure 4 inches square – your gauge should be approximately 4 sc per inch. Adjust your hook size if necessary to match.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- rnd: round
- st: stitch
Instructions:
Base of the Bag:
- Make a magic ring or ch 4 and join to form a ring.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in the ring. (6 sts)
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
- Rnd 3: *1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st* repeat around. (18 sts)
- Rnd 4: *1 sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st* repeat around. (24 sts)
- Rnd 5: *1 sc in the next 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st* repeat around. (30 sts)
- Rnd 6: *1 sc in the next 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st* repeat around. (36 sts)
- Continue increasing in this manner until the base measures approximately 10 inches in diameter, usually around 10-12 rounds.
Sides of the Bag:
- When you reach the desired diameter, stop increasing.
- From here, work in continuous rounds without increasing:
- Rnd 1: 1 sc in each st around. Repeat this round until the sides reach 8 inches in height.
Finishing the Bag:
- To create the top finished edge, make 1 more round of sc, then switch to slip stitches for a cleaner edge.
- Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the last loop and tighten.
Strap:
- Ch 80 (or desired length for strap).
- 1 sc in each chain back to the beginning.
- Fold the strap in half and attach it to the bag by slip stitching it securely on both sides.
Finishing Touches:
- Weave in all ends using your tapestry needle.
- For extra sturdiness, you may choose to block the bag by dampening it and shaping it, allowing it to dry flat.
Enjoy using your gorgeous new crochet round shoulder bag!
