Instructions:

Hat Base:

Begin with a magic ring. Chain 1 to secure.
Round 1: Work 6 sc into the magic ring. Pull tight to close. (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around. (12 sc)
Round 3: *1 sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around. (18 sc)
Round 4: *1 sc in next 2 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around. (24 sc)
Continue increasing the rounds by adding 6 stitches every round until you reach (54 sc). Your hat should measure approximately 10 inches in diameter.
After reaching the desired diameter, work 2 more rounds of sc without increasing. This creates a solid base.

Hat Body:

Next, work in back loops only for the next rounds to give texture. Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 10 more rounds (about 4 inches high).
If you want a wider brim, you can add 2-3 additional rounds here.

Brim:

Round 1: In the next round, crochet 1 sc in each stitch, and then for the next stitch, make a *double crochet (dc) in the same stitch, sc in the next stitch; repeat from * around. This adds a nice ruffle effect.
