- Hook: 3.5mm (US size E)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
Gauge:
20 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern. To measure gauge, create a swatch of 20 stitches and 10 rows, then lay it flat without stretching. Measure your swatch with a ruler.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- dc: double crochet
- sc: single crochet
- sp: space
Pattern Instructions:
Foundation Chain: Ch 90.
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 3, skip 2 ch, *(sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 2 ch)*, repeat from * to * across. End with 1 dc in last ch. (you will have spaces forming).
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc), turn work, *1 dc in sp, ch 3, 1 dc in same sp*, repeat from * to * in each sp across. End with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4.
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in first dc, *ch 3, skip 1 dc, 1 sc in next dc*, repeat from * to * across. Last st will be a sc in top of chain-4.
Row 4: Ch 4, (counts as first dc), turn, *1 dc in sp, ch 3, 1 dc in same sp* across. Finish with sl st in 3rd ch of the beginning chain 4.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Rows 6-15: Repeat Rows 2-5 for 10 more times, alternating your pattern until desired length is achieved (approximately 50 inches long total). After the last repeat, finish with a row of dc without additional ch.
Finishing:
To finish your shawl, cut your yarn and secure by pulling it through the last loop. Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle. To block your shawl, wet it and shape it to the desired dimensions, pinning it on a flat surface and allowing it to dry completely. This will help enhance the lace pattern and give it a polished finish.
Optional Variations:
For a lighter shawl, you can use a lace weight yarn with a size D (3.25mm) hook. Alternatively, you can add beads to the chain spaces for a sparkling effect.
