Fuzzy Purple Coasters
Create charming and colorful coasters that will brighten up your coffee table. These fuzzy purple coasters make perfect gifts for friends or lovely additions to your home decor. Suitable for beginners, this project will introduce you to basic crochet techniques while allowing you to play with texture and color.
Fuzzy Purple Coasters
Materials:
- Yarn: Fuzzy textured yarn in purple, lavender, and white (approximately 100 yards total)
- Crochet Hook: Size G (4.0mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
For this project, gauge is not critical. If you are using a similar fuzzy yarn, a few rows of single crochet should yield a coaster roughly 4 inches in diameter.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- st: stitch
Instructions:
Round 1: Start with a magic ring. If you're not familiar with this technique, you can create a loop by wrapping the yarn around your fingers.
Work 6 sc into the magic ring. Pull the ring tight to close.
Total stitches: 6.
Round 2: Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch). Work 2 sc in each st around.
Total stitches: 12.
Round 3: Ch 1, (1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st) repeat around.
Total stitches: 18.
Round 4: Ch 1, (1 sc in the next 2 st, 2 sc in the next st) repeat around.
Total stitches: 24.
Round 5: Ch 1, (1 sc in the next 3 st, 2 sc in the next st) repeat around.
Total stitches: 30.
Round 6: Ch 1, (1 sc in the next 4 st, 2 sc in the next st) repeat around.
Total stitches: 36.
Continue working in rounds until your coaster reaches the desired diameter, typically around 4-5 inches. You can end when you reach the desired thickness or until you have used your yarn efficiently.
Finishing:
Once you have reached your desired size, join with a sl st to the first sc. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and pull through the loop to secure.
Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle for a neat finish. For extra fluffiness, you can gently trim any uneven edges.
Optional Variations:
- Experiment with different color combinations by alternating yarn colors every few rounds.
- Create a set of coasters in different sizes by adjusting the number of rounds.
