Knitted Doll Ornaments

Knitted Doll Ornaments
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in various colors (red, gray, pink, purple)
- Needles: US 8 (5.0 mm) double-pointed needles
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Buttons for decoration (optional)
- Wooden beads for the heads (1 per doll)
Gauge:
Your gauge should be approximately 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. To check your gauge, knit a small swatch measuring at least 4x4 inches, then measure how many stitches and rows you have in that area.
Abbreviations:
k = knit
p = purl
rnd = round
sts = stitches
BO = bind off
Instructions:
Body (knit for the body of each doll):
- Cast on 24 stitches using the color of your choice.
- Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Knit in rounds until the piece measures 10 rounds.
- For the arms, on round 11, k 3, BO 2, k 3, BO 2, k to the end of the round - you will have 20 sts.
- Continue knitting until the body measures 4 inches from the cast-on edge.
- To shape the head, k 1, k2tog around (15 sts remaining).
- Next round: k around.
- K 1, k2tog around (10 sts remaining).
- Next round: k around.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for gathering. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top.
- Attach the wooden bead as the head.
Hat:
- Using a color of your choice, cast on 16 stitches.
- Join to work in the round and knit 12 rounds in k2, p2 ribbing.
- Decrease: k2, k2tog around (12 sts remaining).
- Knit one more round even.
- Decrease again: k1, k2tog around (8 sts remaining).
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread through the remaining stitches, pulling tight to close the top of the hat.
Scarf:
- For the scarf, cast on 10 stitches using a contrasting color yarn.
- Knit in rows (back and forth) until the scarf measures approximately 10 inches.
- Bind off loosely.
Assembly:
- Position the hat atop the head of the doll and stitch it securely in place.
- Wrap the scarf around the neck of the doll, adjusting for fit and tie the ends if desired.
- Embellish the body with buttons sewn on as hearts or other designs.
Finishing:
