- dc - double crochet

- sp - space
- tr - treble crochet
Shawl Instructions:
- Starting Chain: Make a foundation chain of 120 ch to begin the shawl base.
- Row 1: In the 4th ch from the hook, work 1 dc. *Skip 2 ch, 5 dc in the next ch (this is your shell stitch); skip 2 ch, 1 sc in the next ch.* Repeat from * to * across the row. You should end with a sc in the last ch. Turn your work.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in the same st. *Skip the sc from the previous row, work 5 dc in the next shell stitch; skip the next shell, 1 sc in the next.* Repeat from * to * across the row. End with 1 dc in the last sc. Turn.
- Repeat rows 1 and 2: Continue repeating Rows 1 and 2 until your shawl measures approximately 60" in length, or until you reach approximately 30 rows.
- Adding the Flower Details: With the contrasting colored yarn, join the yarn at a corner. Make a large flower by making a magic circle, ch 3 (counts as the first dc), then work 11 more dc into the circle. Pull the circle tight and sl st to the top of the first dc made. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto the shawl.
- Placement: Attach the flowers evenly along the edging of the shawl where you would like the details to appear. Use your tapestry needle to sew them securely onto the shawl.
Finishing: Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle. For a polished look, lightly block your shawl to ensure it lays flat and even, soaking it in cool water, then laying it flat to dry. You may pin it to shape if needed.
Optional Variations: Consider adding fringes to the ends of your shawl by cutting lengths of yarn (about 8" long) and attaching them to the base of the shawl evenly spaced. Experiment with using different colors for the shawl body or flowers, or add beads into your flower centers for a sparkly touch!
