Lacey Crochet Tote Bag
Materials:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn (approximately 200 yards)

Gauge:
12 double crochets and 7 rows = 4 inches in double crochet. To measure gauge, crochet a swatch that is at least 4 inches square and count the number of stitches and rows in that area.

Instructions:
Bag Body:
1. Foundation Row: Ch 35.
2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Dc in each ch across (total 32 dc). Turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc; repeat from * across (end with 16 dc and 16 ch-1 sps). Turn.
4. Row 3: Ch 3, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; repeat from * across. Turn.
5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 14 inches from the foundation row, ending with Row 3.
Shape the Bottom:
6. Row 1: Ch 3, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip next dc; repeat from * across (should have 16 dc and 16 ch-1 sps). Turn.
7. Row 2-4: Repeat Row 2 and 3 two more times (for a total of three additional rows).
8. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the sides together.
Making the Straps:
9. Ch 70 for each strap, making two straps.
10. Fasten off, leaving long tails for attaching to the bag.
Assembly:
11. Fold the bag in half, aligning the edges. Using the tapestry needle, sew the sides of the bag together using the long tail from the bag body.
12. Attach the straps to the top of the bag using the tapestry needle. Securely stitch the ends of each strap to the bag, around 6 inches apart for comfort.
Finishing:
