Lacy Crochet Throw Blanket
Materials:
- Yarn: DK weight (Light 3), approximately 1000 yards in two shades (light teal and dark teal)
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H-8)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
Gauge:
To ensure your blanket measures the intended size, check your gauge. With your 5.0 mm hook and yarn, make a swatch of 10 x 10 cm. You should have approximately 16 stitches and 10 rows in double crochet (dc). Adjust your hook size if needed to match gauge.
Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- sk - skip
- sp - space
Instructions:
1. Foundation Chain: Start by making a slip knot, then chain 130 stitches for width of the blanket. Ensure your chain is loose enough to allow stretch.
2. Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 dc. Continue making 1 dc in each of the next 126 chains. Turn your work.
3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), then dc in the next dc. *Ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in the next 2 dc. Repeat from * across. End with a ch 2, dc in the top of the turning ch. Turn work.
4. Row 3: Ch 3, dc in the first dc. *Ch 2, dc in the next 2 dc (the ch-2 space from the previous row counts as a st). Repeat from * across, ending with ch 2, dc in the top of the turning ch. Turn work.
5. Continue Pattern: Repeat Row 3 until your blanket reaches approximately 150 cm in length, alternating colors every five rows. Be sure to change yarn colors at the beginning of a row.
6. Finishing: After reaching the desired length, fasten off and weave in all ends using your tapestry needle.
7. Optional Edging: For a finished look, add an edging by making a row of sc around the entire blanket.
Blocking:
To give your blanket a professional finish, lightly block it by wetting it and pinning it in shape, then allowing it to dry completely.
Variations:
You can vary the size by adjusting the foundation chain. For a smaller throw, decrease the chains, or for a larger one, increase. You can also mix and match colors and textures to suit your style!
