Simple Crocheted White Basket
Materials:
- Yarn: 100g of worsted weight cotton yarn in white
- Crochet Hook: 5mm (H/8)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
For this project, a gauge of 12 double crochet (dc) and 8 rows equals 4 inches (10 cm) square is recommended. To test your gauge, make a small swatch of 12 dc and measure accordingly. Adjust hook size if necessary to match gauge.

- dc: double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch

Pattern Instructions:
Base:
- Make a slip knot and chain 4 (ch 4).
- Join the chain into a ring with a slip stitch (sl st) in the first chain.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to the top of the ch 3. (Total: 12 dc)
- Round 2: Ch 3, dc in the same stitch, 2 dc in each of the next 11 stitches. Join with sl st. (Total: 24 dc)
- Round 3: Ch 3, (dc in the next stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch) repeat around. Join with sl st. (Total: 36 dc)
Sides:
- Round 4: Ch 3, dc in the next 35 stitches. Join with sl st. (Total: 36 dc)
- Repeat Round 4 for a total of 10 additional rounds. You should now have a total of 11 rounds.
Finishing:
- After completing the last round, fasten off the yarn by cutting it, leaving a tail of about 6 inches.
- Pull the tail through the last loop and tighten it to secure.
- Using a tapestry needle, weave in any loose ends into the work.
- If desired, block your basket to help it hold its shape. To block, lightly spray with water and reshape it while it dries.
