Spiral Crochet Coaster

Materials:

100% cotton yarn in turquoise and white (approximately 50g of each color)
5.0mm crochet hook
Scissors
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

4 inches = 10 stitches in double crochet (DC). To check your gauge, make a small swatch of DC and measure with a ruler. Adjust your hook size if necessary to meet gauge.

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
st = stitch

Instructions:

Round 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 2 (counts as dc), then make 11 dc into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with sl st to the top of the ch 2. (12 dc)

Round 2: Ch 2, in the same st, make 2 dc. In each st around, make 2 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (24 dc)

Round 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (36 dc)

Round 4: Ch 2, *1 dc in the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (48 dc)

Color Change: In the next round, switch to white yarn.

Round 5: Using white, ch 2, *1 dc in the next 3 sts, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (60 dc)

Round 6: Ch 2, *1 dc in the next 4 sts, 2 dc in the next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (72 dc)

Round 7: Ch 1, sc in the same st and in each st around. Join with sl st to the first sc. (72 sc)

Finishing: Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the last loop to secure. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle. For a more finished look, lightly block the coaster by wetting it and laying it flat to dry in shape.
