Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sp = space
Instructions:
Foundation Row: With bright green yarn, make a foundation chain of 60 chains (ch). This will create the base of your scarf. Make sure to crochet loosely so the scarf remains flexible.
Row 1: Starting from the second ch from the hook, make 1 dc in each ch across. You should have 59 dc at the end of this row. Turn your work.
Row 2: Ch 2 (this counts as first dc), *dc in the next st; repeat from * until you reach the end of the row. Turn your work.
Rows 3-5: Repeat Row 2 for 3 more rows. You will have a total of 5 rows of dc in bright green.
Rows 6-10: Change to bright blue yarn. For each row, repeat Row 2. You should now have 5 rows of dc in bright blue.
Rows 11-15: Switch to purple yarn and repeat Row 2 for another 5 rows.
Rows 16-20: Change to orange yarn and repeat Row 2 for another 5 rows.
Rows 21-25: Change to white yarn and repeat Row 2 for the final 5 rows.
Creating the Hood:
After completing the body of the scarf, fold the last 15 rows in half to create the hood. Use bright green yarn to slip stitch (sl st) across the top edge of the scarf, securing the hood in place. Make sure to keep the stitches even.
Trimming the Hood:
To give the hood a decorative edge, make a row of dc around the entire edge using bright blue yarn. When you reach the corners, make 3 dc in each corner to maintain the shape.
Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle. This will give your project a neat appearance. You can block your scarf if you prefer a more polished look, especially around the edges of the hood.
Optional Variations:
For a softer touch, use a fluffy yarn or add pom-poms to the ends of the scarf. You can also vary the length of the scarf by adjusting the number of chains in the foundation row.
This vibrant hooded scarf is now complete! Enjoy wearing it or gift it to someone special.
