- rep = repeat
Instructions:
Granny Squares:
Begin with a magic ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc into the ring, ch 2, *3 dc into the ring, ch 2*; repeat from * to * two more times. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. You should have four clusters separated by ch-2 spaces.
Round 2: Sl st to the first ch-2 space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp, *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 space*; repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. You should have eight clusters.
Round 3: Sl st to the first ch-2 space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp, *3 dc in the next 3 dc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 space*; repeat from * to *. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. You should have twelve clusters.
Repeat rounds until you have a total of 9 squares.
Assembling the Bag:
Arrange 6 squares in a rectangle for the front and back of the bag.
Using a slip stitch, join the squares together along the edges. Repeat for the other side.
For the sides of the bag, use 3 squares for each side and attach them similarly.
Join the front, back, and sides together forming a tote shape.
Now, attach the handles: Thread the handles through the top edges of the bag and secure them in place with a few stitches on either side.
Finishing:
Weave in any loose ends using a tapestry needle. To give your bag a nice finish, block the squares lightly with a damp cloth and lay them flat to dry. Consider adding a fun lining to the inside of the bag for added structure and to conceal yarn ends.
Optional Variations:
Consider changing the yarn colors for seasonal themes, or adding embellishments such as pom-poms or patches to personalize your tote!
