Colorful Ripple Blanket
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (4) in the following colors: white, burgundy, teal, and mustard. Approximately 1200 yards total (300 yards of each color).
- Hook: Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.
- Scissors for cutting the yarn.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge:
16 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in ripple pattern. To measure gauge, make a small swatch of your ripple pattern until it reaches 4 inches in width and 4 inches in height. Adjust hook size if necessary to achieve the correct gauge.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
- rep = repeat
Instructions:
1. Foundation Row: With white yarn, chain 118. This will create the base for your blanket.
2. Row 1: Starting in the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet (dc) in each of the next 2 chains, then make a 6 dc cluster in the next chain.
Make 1 double crochet in the next 2 chains, skip 2 chains, and then repeat the pattern until the end of the row. Finish with 1 double crochet in the last chain.
3. Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), turn. In the next 2 stitches, make 1 double crochet in each.
Make a 6 dc cluster in the top of the cluster from the previous row.
Continue this pattern across the row, and finish with a double crochet in the last stitch.
4. Row 3: Change to burgundy yarn and repeat the pattern as in Row 2.
5. Row 4: Change to teal yarn and repeat the pattern as in Row 2.
6. Row 5: Change to mustard yarn and repeat the pattern as in Row 2.
7. Continue the pattern: Repeat Rows 2-5 until your blanket reaches the desired length, ideally around 60 inches. Note: This will take around 36 rows total, alternating yarn colors as specified.
8. Finishing: Fasten off your last yarn color. Weave in all ends using your tapestry needle.
9. Blocking: Gently block your blanket by spraying lightly with water and laying it flat to dry. This helps set the stitches evenly.
Optional Variations:
- Try adding fringe to the edges for a fun touch.
- Use different colors to match your home decor or to create a personalized gift.
