Crochet Bear with Dress

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project, but you should aim for about 5 stitches per inch in single crochet. To measure, crochet a small swatch of 10 stitches wide and 10 rows high, then measure in inches to check your gauge.

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
inc = increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
dec = decrease (sc two stitches together)
sl st = slip stitch
rs = right side
ws = wrong side

Bear Body:

Start with Brown yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
Round 2: Inc in each stitch (12)
Round 3: (sc in next stitch, inc) repeat around (18)
Round 4-8: sc in each stitch (18)
Round 9: (sc in next stitch, dec) repeat around (12)

Bear Head:

Round 3: (sc in next stitch, inc) repeat around (18)
Round 4-6: sc in each stitch (18)
Round 7: (sc in next stitch, dec) repeat around (12)
Stuff the head.
Round 8: Dec around (6)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew head to body.

Bear Ears (Make 2):

Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
Round 2: Inc in each stitch (12)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembly:

Pinch the bottom of the ear to flatten, sew to the head.
Attach safety eyes between rounds 4 and 5 of the head.
Embroider a small brown nose on the face using brown yarn.
Attach the head to the body by sewing securely.

Dress:

With Pink yarn, ch 29.
Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, dc across (27)
Row 2: ch 3, turn, dc in each dc (27)
Row 3: Repeat Row 2 until the dress is about 7 rows high.
Fold the dress in half and sew the sides together to create a tube.
To create the ruffle, ch 1, sc around the top edge (this will also create the neckline). For added style, you can add a second ruffle by repeating this step and sewing it onto the first ruffle.

Using Gray yarn, repeat similar steps as bear body but make it smaller (starting with 4 sc).
