Crochet Daffodil Flowers
Materials:
- Yarn: Medium Weight (Worsted) Yarn in Yellow (about 100g), Black (for the center, about 20g), and Green (for the stem and leaves, about 30g).
- Crochet Hook: Size G (4.0 mm).
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends).
Gauge:
12 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches in double crochet. To check gauge, make a swatch of 12 double crochet stitches for 4 inches wide and measure. Adjust your hook size if necessary.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Instructions:
- Flower Petals:
- With yellow yarn, create a magic circle.
- Ch 3 (counts as first dc), then work 11 dc into the magic circle. Pull the circle tight and sl st to the top of the starting ch to close the round. (12 dc)
- Ch 3, *dc in next dc, ch 1; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to the top of the starting ch. (12 ch 1 spaces)
- For the petals, in each ch 1 space, make 2 dc, 2 ch, and 2 dc. This creates a petal shape. Repeat for each space. Join with sl st to complete the round.
- Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
- For the center, use black yarn: In the magic circle, ch 1, work 6 sc into the circle. Pull tight and join with sl st. Fasten off.
- Sew the black center to the center of the yellow flower with yarn tail.
- Repeat steps 1-7 to make additional petals. Aim for three flowers.
- For the Stem:
- With green yarn, ch 30. Fasten off and weave in ends. This will be the stem for the flowers.
- Attach flowers to the stem by sewing them in place along the stem using yarn tails.
- For leaves, ch 10 with green yarn. In the 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, dc, then work back to create a leaf shape. Fasten off. Repeat to make two leaves.
- Sew the leaves to the stem.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends using your tapestry needle. Optionally, you can lightly block your flowers by dampening them and shaping them softly to enhance the petals.
Optional Variations:
You could use other colors for flowers or make smaller versions of flowers to create a larger bouquet. Play around with different yarn textures for unique results!
