Crochet Round Coaster
Materials:
- Yarn: 100% Cotton, Worsted Weight (4) - Approximately 50 grams of golden yellow
- Crochet Hook: 4 mm (G)
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 4 inches = 12 stitches in double crochet (DC). To measure gauge, crochet a swatch of 10 DC in a row and measure the width. Adjust your hook size if necessary to match the gauge.
Abbreviations:
- ch - chain
- sl st - slip stitch
- sc - single crochet
- dc - double crochet
- st(s) - stitch(es)
Instructions:
- Start with a Slip Knot: On your hook, create a slip knot with your yarn.
- Chain 4: ch 4. This will form the center of your coaster.
- Join to Form a Ring: sl st into the first ch to create a ring.
- Round 1: ch 3 (this counts as your first dc), then dc 11 into the ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the ch 3. (Total: 12 dc)
- Round 2: ch 3, then dc in the same stitch (this is an increase), and dc in each of the next stitch (11 more). Join with sl st to the top of ch 3. (Total: 24 dc)
- Round 3: ch 3, *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (Total: 36 dc)
- Round 4: ch 3, *dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (Total: 48 dc)
- Optional Rounds: If you would like your coaster larger, you can continue adding rounds in the same manner, increasing by 12 stitches each round, until you reach your desired size.
- Finishing: After your last round, cut your yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pull the tail through the last loop and tighten. Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends on the back of your coaster.
Finishing Tips: To ensure your coaster lays flat, you can lightly steam block it by placing it on an iron-safe surface and lightly applying steam. Be careful not to touch the iron directly to the yarn.
Optional Variation: You can also experiment with different colors for each round to create a striped effect or use cotton yarns with different textures for a unique feel.
