Pink Crochet Dishcloth
Materials:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn (approximately 100g in pink)
- 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
Gauge:
To achieve the right size and stitch definition, work a swatch of 10 stitches x 10 rows in the pattern. The gauge should measure approximately 4 inches square. If your swatch does not match, adjust your hook size as needed.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sp = space
Instructions:
Foundation Row:
Begin with a slip knot on your hook. Chain 30 to create a starting foundation row. This will be your starting chain for the dishcloth.
Row 1:
Dc into the 4th chain from your hook (the initial 3 chains count as your first dc).
Continue to dc in each chain across (you should have 28 dc in total).
Turn your work.
Row 2:
Ch 3 (this counts as your first dc).
In the next dc, *ch 1, skip the next dc, dc in the next dc; repeat from * across. You should end the row with a dc in the top of the last dc. Turn your work.
Row 3:
Ch 3 (counts as your first dc).
In the first ch-1 space, dc; *ch 1, dc in the next ch-1 space; repeat from * across. End with a dc in the top of the last dc. Turn your work.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your work measures approximately 10 inches in height, or until you reach about 40 rows total. This will provide a nice square dishcloth.
Final Row:
Complete the last row with a normal dc in each dc and ch-1 space, ensuring a completed edge. Turn your work.
Finishing:
Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pull the tail through the last loop on your hook to secure. Weave in the ends with a tapestry needle. Optionally, you can block your dishcloth by soaking it in water and laying it flat to dry, shaping it to your desired dimensions.
Variations:
You can customize your dishcloth by using different colors or adding stripes. Try using a pastel color for a softer look or mix in contrasting colors for a fun design!
