Simple Ribbed Fingerless Gloves

Materials
– Worsted weight yarn (approx. 50g total)
– 4.5 mm straight knitting needles
– Tapestry needle
– Scissors
– Stitch markers or safety pins (for marking thumb hole)


Instructions

Glove is worked flat and then seamed:

  1. Cast On:

    • Using long-tail cast-on, cast on 36 stitches. This will fit an average adult hand (adjust in multiples of 4 for larger/smaller hands).

  2. Work Ribbing:

    • Row 1: K2, P2 across the entire row.

    • Row 2: K2, P2 across again.

    • Continue working in K2, P2 ribbing until your piece measures approx. 18 cm from cast-on edge.

  3. Bind Off:

    • Bind off loosely in pattern (knit the knits, purl the purls).

  4. Seaming the Glove:

    • Fold your knitted piece in half vertically (short edges meet).

    • Seam up the side using mattress stitch, leaving a 4 cm opening for the thumb roughly 5 cm up from the bottom edge.

    • You can mark this area with stitch markers before seaming to make it easier.

  5. Repeat for the second glove.
