Textured Autumn Wrap
Materials:
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn (size 5) - approximately 300 yards in a gradient of warm autumn colors (orange, brown, cream)
- Hook: Size 9mm (US M-13)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 8 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches in half double crochet. To check your gauge, crochet a swatch of 20 stitches and 20 rows, then measure the dimensions.
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- hdc: half double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
Instructions:
Foundation Row:
Chain 40 (or to desired width). This will be the width of your wrap.
Row 1:
In the 3rd chain from the hook, make 1 hdc.
Hdc in each chain across. Turn. (38 hdc)
Row 2:
Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), make hdc in each stitch across, turn. (38 hdc)
Repeat Rows 1 and 2:
Continue alternating between these two rows until your wrap reaches 60 inches in length, or your desired length.
Edging:
For a tidy finish, you can add an edging. For this wrap, I recommend a simple slip stitch edge.
Start by chaining 1, then sl st into each hdc across the entire wrap. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Finishing Tips:
After completing your wrap, gently block it to help even out your stitches and enhance the texture. Simply lay it flat, shaping it to your desired dimensions, and allow it to dry.
Optional Variations:
You can add fringes to the ends of your wrap for a more bohemian look. Cut several strands of yarn about 10 inches long, and knot them into the ends of the wrap.
